The ship, or the full rigged ship is a very iconic Traditional American tattoo. The ship tattoo symbolizes the prospect of adventure, travel and or a spiritual journey. It was a popular tattoo amongst sailors for obvious reasons but some say that it holds a figurative meaning dating back to the times when Christians needed to hide the cross. The masts form the shape of a cross and are hidden behind the sails.
Here are 11 renderings of the ship tattoo made by the artists at Kings Avenue Tattoo.
